A traffic police officer in Keroka, Nyamira County sustained serious injuries after chasing a drunk bodaboda rider who failed to stop at a roadblock along Kisii-Keroka highway.
Keroka OCPD Walter Apondo confirmed the Sunday incident saying the drunk bodaboda rider was ferrying a customer when the incident happened.
"The officer tried to stop the rider who was riding at high speed but the rider refused to stop. The officer chased him," said Apondo.
Apondo noted that the motorbike fell on the officer injuring his left leg while the rider sustained injuries on his forehead and broke his right hand.
"The officer was rushed to Tenwek hospital where he is receiving treatment. The rider is also receiving treatment at the same hospital while the customer who was being ferried sustained knee injuries and he was rushed to Gucha hospital," the OCPD noted.
He warned riders against riding under the influence of alcohol saying police officers manning roadblocks will not spare anyone.
The OCPD appealed to motorists to stop at the roadblocks for the purpose of friendly security checkup.
