A Mombasa Court will on Wednesday deliver a ruling on the bond application of a man who was allegedly arrested while in possession of video material of the assassination of Sheikh Aboud Rogo Mohamed.
Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Rabera reserved his ruling following an application by the prosecution seeking detention of the suspect.
Said Chivatsi Lewa is facing 12 terrorism charges, including allegedly being a member of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Chivatsi is also facing another charge of allegedly holding material which is believed was to be used to commit acts of terrorism and promote extremist religious beliefs.
According to the Standard, the suspect was accused of committing the crimes on June 12, 2019 in Mazeras EPZ in Kilifi County.
The court heard that the accused person at the time of his arrest was allegedly found with the video of the August 27, 2012 assassination of Sheikh Rogo.
Chivatsi denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bond.
The prosecution, however, opposed the bond application saying the police still need more time to complete their investigations.
Magistrate Rabera will deliver his ruling on the bond application on July 3.
