After the expiry of his presidential term in 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta cannot hold any other public office, fiery lawyer Miguna Miguna has said.

Miguna said the 2010 Constitution bars Uhuru from being appointed or elected to another public office after serving his second and final term.

He claimed the President was pushing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to bring about a parliamentary system, so he can remain in power beyond his term.

"Uhuru Kenyatta knows that the Constitution of Kenya 2010 compels him to vacate office in 2022 without any extensions. The Constitution prohibits him from occupying any public office - appointive or elective. Not even as an MCA. He wants a Parliamentary system with no term limits," he tweeted on Wednesday.

He urged Kenyans to reject the BBI, which was born from Uhuru's handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga, whose aim he claimed was to make the Jubilee Party leader 'imperial lord of Kenya'.

"Fellow Kenyans: Don't waste your time discussing the grade 3 level BBI... Its principal aim is to remove the term limit in the Constitution and make Uhuru Kenyatta an Imperial Lord of Kenya for life and Raila Odinga his compliant dishwasher. Seek justice fearlessly," Miguna said.

Arguing that Uhuru is too young to retire, some leaders such as former Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe and COTU boss Francis Atwoli have been claiming Uhuru will remain in power after 2022, but in a different position.

“The only thing the President can’t do is to run for Presidency but, under the new political dispensation envisaged by the BBI team, we anticipate new political formations that will be all-encompassing and inclusive,” Murathe said.
