President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to retire in 2022 but leaders from the region are determined to inherit the voting block from him, a move that has created divisions.

On Sunday, the firebrand Gatundu South MP who has been at loggerheads with leaders allied to Uhuru warned that Waiguru messed by joining ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Governor Waiguru is one of the proponents of Handshake politics and campaigned for Imran Okoth of ODM in Kibra by-election race a week ago.

Kuria now says the Jubilee governor will be irrelevant in the next polls, adding that she committed political suicide by joining hands with ODM.

"She has committed political suicide as the Mt Kenya region is opposed to Mr Odinga's style of politics. Residents from the region are also not happy with what Ms Waiguru did," he stated as quoted by the nation.

However, in a quick rejoinder, Waiguru's deputy Peter Ndambiri defended her move, arguing that Kuria has no moral authority to lecture her.

"The governor knows what she is doing. Mr Kuria should stop lecturing to her on politics," said the Deputy Governor.

Waiguru had initially started courting Deputy President William Ruto only to change tune after meeting ODM leader Raila Odinga in two separate occasions.
