The latest episode of the mass shooting crisis rocking the United States of America has left 5 people dead and at least 21 people injured.
A police officer who tried to stop the drive-by shooting was the first to take a hit.
The yet-to-be-identified shooter went on to unload his gun at other people including motorists and pedestrians.
At one point he jumped out of his car and got onto a truck as he continued to unleash deadly violence.
Police managed to shoot him dead at a cinema complex after he defied countless orders to stand down.
Investigations have been launched into the incident with the view of determining what the motive of the white gunman was.
One of the victims of the outrage was a less than 2 years old infant who was struck by a bullet fragment and was quickly airlifted to hospital for treatment.
"She took a bullet through her bottom lip, so she was bleeding pretty good,” a witness of the shooting Fawcett said
Scores of leaders reacted to the incident including former Texas legislator Beto O’Rourke who called for deliberate steps to be taken to bring the shooting epidemic to an end.
Texas Governor assured the residents that hatred and violence would not be allowed to thrive in the state.
"We offer our unwavering support to the victims, their families and all the people of Midland and Odessa,” he said according to the Washington Post.
“I want to remind all Texans that we will not allow the Lone Star State to be overrun by hatred and violence. We will unite, as Texans always do, to respond to this tragedy.” He added.
