For the better part of the weekend, the Interior CS has been under fire from MPs allied to Tangatanga faction of Jubilee administration.

Speaking on Sunday in Nyamira, the first-term legislator insisted Dr Matiang'i is a victim of his own good deeds to the people of Kenya.

The Senior Counsel gave an example of Nyansiongo-Metamaywa road, which he said Matiang'i flushed out contractor due to shoddy job.

"Those fighting the minister are some corrupt individuals. Their channels of stealing from us have been blocked by the minister and that's why they are furious. Matiang'i has kicked out lazy contractors who used to give these graft lords kickbacks. They have now ganged against him," he said.

Although the CS has not announced intentions of joining elective politics, he has been under pressure to join Presidential race.

Governors James Ongwae and John Nyagarama have been leading campaigns in support of Mr Matiang'i, who hails from Nyamira.

Quite a number of Gusii MPs led by Borabu's Ben Momanyi are also backing Matiang'i for the State House race.

He has met all elective leaders from the region before.
