Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o has mourned Gilbert Mundela, DRC President Felix Tsishekedi's advisor who succumbed after a heart attack on Friday.
Mundela, according to Nation, collapsed at a Nairobi hotel and lost his life while being rushed to the Nairobi Hospital.
Speaking at the Lee Funeral Home on Sunday, Nyong'o said that he shared a friendship with the deceased, mourning him as a liberator back at home.
He said that Mundela played a major role in the push to liberate the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from post-colonial oppression.
“He was like a brother in his long journey to liberate the DRC from post-colonial oppression,” the governor told members of the press as quoted by Nation.
The county boss spoke when he accompanied Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for the body viewing.
Paul Mundela, brother to the deceased, said that plans to transport his body back for Kinshasa have kicked off.
Mundela was Tsishekedi's private affairs advisor and also doubles up as his cousin. He also played a major role in his (Tsishekedi's) election in 2018.
His death came only a day after returning to Nairobi, given that he had left for Kinshasa last Sunday before returning on Thursday.
