Njabini OCPD Charles Rotich who confirmed the accident said several others sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to Naivasha sub-county hospital.

The driver of the lorry lost control near Flyover trading centre hitting two vehicles that were on the road before the speeding lorry rammed into the traders.

Rotich said three of the traders died on the spot while the fourth died while undergoing treatment in Naivasha.

The OCPD said they have launched a manhunt for the driver of the lorry after he fled from the scene after the accident.

“We had a tragic accident at Soko Mjinga centre where we lost four men after the driver of a lorry rammed into two vehicles before losing control and hitting the traders,” Rotich told Standard.

Operations at the busy market were paralyzed after the 6 am incident as shaken traders watched in shock before police moved in.

Jackson Mwangi, a trader in the market said the speeding lorry first hit a matatu that was picking passengers near the market.

The lorry then hit a personal car that was coming from the opposite direction before it hit the traders at the market.

“The accident happened so fast with some traders caught up by the lorry that was heading to Nairobi from Naivasha,” said Mwangi.
