Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya has condemned the spate of deadly attacks in Samburu.
Speaking on Saturday in Baragoi, the tough talking Natembeya put chiefs habouring criminals in their areas on notice.
Natembeya said local administrators would have to answer why their areas have become insecure.
"If there will be gunshots in a chief's area, that will mean that that area does not have a government so the area chief will have to give an explanation. (Kama kutakuwa na bunduki inalia kwa area ya chief, risasi ikilia kwake, inamaanisha pale hakuna serikali so chief atasema kazi yake ni gani)," Natembeya said.
Parts of the North Rift have experienced scores of attacks that have resulted in scores of deaths.
When he assumed office as Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, Natembeya vowed to deal with the problem of banditry that continues to plague the region.
Local leaders have also been involved at the diplomatic end of things, in efforts to convince locals to renounce violence and allow peace to thrive.
The insecurity in the region has been fed partly by the illegal guns which are in the hands of locals.
A few years ago, security officers were mowed down in Baragoi after they fell victim to a surprise attack by well armed bandits.
