A section of Kalenjin politicians opposed to Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday attended a traditional function in Mt Elgon, Bungoma county.
Led by KANU chair Gideon Moi and former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, the group attended Moi's anointing ceremony, where he was coronated a Sabaot and Kalenjin elder.
They took jabs at a section of politicians who appear over obsessed with the 2022 succession politics, with Moi stressing on the need for the political class to go slow on the 2022 debate
He said that the group, in a veiled shot at Ruto's team, have been threatening others they consider rivals, hitting back that there exists people who can't be shaken by the threats.
"Certain people have been threatening others about 2022, they must realise that some people cannot be threatened,” the Baringo Senator told his supporters at the Kapspkwony Market.
He called to an end to the politics, instead urging those politicking to join hands with the others in helping President Uhuru Kenyatta with his delivery mission.
On his side, Rutto decided to keep off politics, instead urging the government to exercise sobriety in the ongoing evictions of settlers in Mau Forest and resettle the victims.
“We have no problem with efforts to conserve Mau Forest. However, let the families affected be given alternative resettlement place,” said the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) leader.
Other leaders present were Nominated Senator Zipporah Kittony and MPs William Kamket (Tiaty), Silas Tiren (Moiben), and former Mt Elgon MPs John Serut and Joe Kimkung.
Kamket hailed Moi for being admitted into elderhood, challenging him to now declare his presidential ambitions.
However, he said that he will do it at the right time, and would like to give Uhuru the calm he currently needs to deliver.
“We respect President Uhuru’s request for us to work for the people and shelve early campaigns. I will come back to tell you the direction to follow,” he said.
The leaders vowed to back Moi's bid once he declares his interest in the presidency.
