Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has disowned a notice doing rounds on Social Media declaring Monday, 14th October to be a public holiday to celebrate Eliud Kipchoge’s historic feat in Vienna.
In a tweet on Saturday, the CS noted that the notice is fake.
''NOTICE TO ALL KENYANS.The notice attached is FAKE. Kindly ignore,'' wrote the Interior CS.
He argued Kenyans to resume their duties on Monday as normal and not be deceived by the fake notice.
The notice had indicated that the government had declared Monday a public holiday to celebrate Kipchoge's history win during the INEOS Challenge.
‘’It is notified for the general information of the public that in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the public Holiday acts, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and co-ordination of National Government declares that Monday, the 14th October 2019 be a public holiday to mark the INEOS 1:59 Challenge,’’ reads part for the fake notice.
The declaration of a public holiday notice emerged after the World Marathon record holder broke the two-hour marathon barrier.
Kipchoge crossed the finish line at 1:59:40.
The race that took place in Vienna, Austria has attracted different reactions from Kenyans with some calling on the government to make Monday a public holiday to celebrate the win.
