Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has alleged that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have betrayed Mau voters.
Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday at Serena Hotel, the senator demanded that the two leaders make public their stand on the evictions as people start vacating their homes to avoid forceful eviction.
"What is the official government position on this issue? Can a rogue minister just show up on your home and ask you to leave under any known law in Kenya? I want to know from the President and his deputy whether they have changed their public position on this issue,” said the Kericho Senator.
According to Cheruiyot, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), Ministry of Lands, Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) and the National Land Commission (NLC) must confirm if the evictions are legal because some inhabitants have title deeds.
He also claimed that there is a sale agreement that should protect Mau dwellers.
“The innocent citizens heeded their call, went to these primary schools, then being used as polling stations and voted for Jubilee Party. It is now on you Mr President and your deputy to keep your side of the bargain,” he reiterated.
Flanked by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, they want CS Keraiko Tobiko to protect locals.
