Politicians from Kisii and Nyamira Counties supporting Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to contest in 2022 have been asked to 'stop lying to him'.

Although Dr Matiang'i is yet to declare any political interest, he has however been assembling a number of politicians to his camp ahead of 2022.

Governor John Nyagarama and Senator Okong'o Mogeni have been spearheading Pro-Matiang'i campaigns, with Kisii's James Ongwae also joining.

A week ago, Raila asked the team to go slow on the calls, arguing that opponents could seize the chance and poke holes at Dr Matiang'i's leadership.

"Matiang'i is like my son. I know what you want. Just allow him to work first. When that time comes, we shall see how to go about it," he said.

But Samuel Okemwa, a close ally of Mr Odinga, insists that Matiang'i will not get endorsement from Raila, adding that the veteran leader will be on ballot.

Mr Okemwa asked leaders from Kisii to stop putting unnecessary pressure on Matiang'i. He has previously been accusing the leaders of using Raila for their selfish gains.

"Raila is very determined about 2022 and he will be in the ballot. Stop cheating him (Matiang'i) that Raila will endorse him for President," he said in a text.

Last week, a section of leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties visited Mr Odinga at Capitol Hill offices and they discussed the current political dispensation.
