Amani National Congress (ANC) Deputy Party leader Kipruto Arap Kirwa is the latest leader to question the basis of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The initiative which was founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga after their 2018 truce has been seeking to change the country's mode of operation.
Speaking on Thursday, the former Cherangany MP questioned the referendum part of the BBI considering that it has been termed a looming constitutional amendment push.
He observed that the BBI lacks the opinions of Kenyans, though the BBI taskforce has been seen taking opinions from Kenyans lately.
"When Uhuru and Raila say the BBI is their project but it does not have the opinions of Kenyans, then that is where they go wrong," he said on KTN News Thursday morning.
His remarks were partly echoed by former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who questioned the leaders pushing for a referendum, especially before the 2022 polls.
He noted that the leaders are trying to come up with remedies without understanding the real problem, stressing on the need for them to identify the exact ailment of the constitution.
"When did leaders engage Kenyans to get the problems that mwananchi face? Why do they want a new katiba before 2022?" said the ex-county boss.
