Four people have been confirmed dead after a malaria outbreak in Baringo County. Reports also indicate that more than 100 others have been hospitalised after the incident.

Out of the deceased, two are adults while the rest are youths from Kongor. Baringo Health CEC Mary Panga said has confirmed the outbreak of the disease in the area pending efforts to contain the same. 

“My teams are on the ground, screening and treating the residents and will monitor to reduce risk of more of them developing the same symptoms,” Baringo Health CEC Mary Panga said, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Tirioko ward in Tiaty east sub county are among the areas where residents have been lamenting headache, fever and vomiting.

Some of the areas which have been affected include Akoret, Kapau, Atirir Krese, Korelach, Chesotim, Lokis, Ng’aina, Kulol, Kaghat, Kongor and  Chesawach.Tirioko ward MCA Sam Lokales, said that the number of patients reported from the area has been on the run.

“In Akoret division there is no single dispensary. Kapau, Chesawach, Kongor areas depend on herbalists and also extortion of evil spirits and it is like we have been forgotten by the county government,” he said.

Residents have been asked to stay alert as the government looks for ways to contain the same.
