Proposals made by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce must be keenly looked into before being embraced, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said.

This follows reports that the BBI taskforce has since retreated to prepare a report which it will hand over to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The two formed the team after their 2018 truce, and deployed it to seek views from Kenyans and compile proposals Kenya can use to avoid recurrent fights after the general election.

But Kalonzo, who has since thrown his weight behind the Uhuru-Raila handshake, on Monday said the proposals must be unifying if they are to be embraced.

“People must be able to interrogate those recommendations and see how unifying they are, We need to create a country free of corruption and other ills," he said in his Karen office.

On his side, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale pledged support should the 14-member team propose a return to the parliamentary governance system.

He stressed on the need for equal distribution of resources, a system which will ensure minority communities are included in government and 45 percent of the revenue allocated to counties.

"What I support is a pure parliamentary system of government. We must do away with the presidential team. A parliamentary system will ensure inclusivity in government," said the Garissa Town MP.

Raila's allies have predicted that the taskforce will propose an expanded executive, which has seen the entire project opposed by Deputy President William Ruto.
