Equity Group Foundation has opened a new medical centre in Nakuru under the program EQUITY Afia aimed to ensure quality healthcare services to the people at grassroots.

The medical centre located at Nakuru’s Resma Plaza becomes the 8th centre to be opened under the program after 6 centres and one centre in Nairobi and Nyeri counties respectively.

Speaking on Friday during the official opening ceremony of the centre, General Manager Equity Afia Gilbert Muriithi stated that as a Foundation, they are now focusing on the creation of such centres that will see more quality and affordable healthcare services.

Muriithi said the Nakuru centre besides offering healthcare services is also an avenue for employment with already 25 professional employed at the facility.

“We are committed towards partnership and opening even more medical centres in Nakuru and more so at the grassroots level,” he said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by Dr Korir Joan from Equity Afia who said the move will also help towards realizing the universal healthcare agenda of the national government.

Nakuru County Chief Executive member for Health Dr Kariuki Gichuki who graced the event reiterated the county’s commitment towards partnering with like-minded people and investors in the health sector.

Dr Kariuki also expressed the need to start focusing on preventive mechanisms rather than curative as a way to deal with numerous diseases affecting Kenyans.

“Preventive measures is the way to go. As a county we are committed on matters health,” she said.

The Equity Group Foundation’s program EQUITY Afia started in 2016 and aims at ensuring quality and affordable healthcare services to the people and more so at the grassroots level.
