The Atheists Society of Kenya President Harrison Mumia has welcomed people praying for his family following the death of his father, Esau Rogers Mumia.
Mumia's dad succumbed to prostrate cancer last week and the family has been organising his funeral whose date is yet to be announced.
Taking to social media on Tuesday night, Mumia welcomed those praying that his father's burial will go on as planned without major incidents. However, he was quick to note that the prayers were specifically for his dad, disclosing he does not believe in their powers.
"People pray a lot during funerals. As we plan to bury my late father, I do welcome all those who are praying that all will be well. For my dad. In prayer," he posted on Twitter.
"It should be noted though, that I do not believe in the power of prayers," the added.
In an interview during the weekend, Mumia eulogised Esau as a strong man who was dedicated to his family and added he will be dearly missed.
“My dad has been suffering from prostate cancer for the last year. He was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer. I had come to accept it that my dad was having a disease that was terminal. It is a very difficult time for me. He was always there for me and my siblings,” he said
The family has been fundraising to offset medical bills incurred by the deceased.
