The function, which has since been banned by the police, has been organized by Western Kenya leaders opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) consultative forum set for Bukhungu Stadium on the same day.

But the governor, while adressing the press at Bukhungu on Friday, poked holes into the rival rally, suggesting that meeting can be held there in his absense, as he is a native of Mumias.

"I come from Mumias, thats my home, so who can hold a meeting there yet I am here? (Mimi natoka Mumias, kule ni kwetu, nani anaweza kuenda kule na kufanya mkutano na mimi niko hapa?)," he posed.

He predicted that the leaders set to attend the Mumias function will end up all alone, saying that locals will attend the Bukhungu function and not the one at Nabongo Grounds.

"All Kenyans from this region will be here, no one will be in Mumias (Wakenya wote kutoka sehemu hii watakuwa hapa, hakutakuwa na watu Mumias)," he added.

The organizers of the Mumias meeting have vowed to proceed and attend it despite police warnings. The police have since cancelled their meeting permit.
