President Uhuru Kenyatta's March 2018 truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga seems to have given him peace of mind, and can now rule in peace.

Though Raila appears like the main achiever, thanks to his security detail elevation and other privileges like hosting Uhuru's ministers which makes him appear politically higher, Uhuru remains the main beneficiary.

Using Raila, Uhuru has managed to avoid some very serious challenges that were facing his leadership, among them the secession talk which was dangerously growing in the opposition quarters after Raila's 2017 poll loss.

Should the opposition have broken away to form the proposed People's Republic of Kenya, Uhuru would have retired in 2022 with the worst record in Kenyan history, as the man under whose rule the nation broke into two.

Luckily for him, it seems his political card managed to deliver the preferred result, and can now look Kenyans and his predecessors in the eye and argue that he left Kenya a more united Kenya than he found it when his retirement finally comes.

Uhuru had also killed the economic hardships that were facing his leadership, among them being the opposition's threats that it would tell people in its strongholds to withhold taxes, which would have cut revenue by half.

There was also a list of firms whose goods and services were marked for boycott, which was with time going to wither some companies, and ultimately see them either run out of business or reduce operations, resulting in tax reduction.

In this vein, a nation with a struggling economy and trillions in foreign debt like Kenya, Uhuru predicted tough times ahead should the stalemate have continued, forcing him to embrace Raila for his (Uhuru) own sake.

At the same time, Uhuru has killed both Raila and his deputy William Ruto politically. While he has openly tamed Raila who cannot fight his leadership like before, he has denied Ruto an opponent for the time being.

Otherwise, the two political enemies would be now involved in a bitter exchange than is being seen now in the event Raila was not in Uhuru's camp which would deny Uhuru the so much needed peace to deliver to Kenyans.

Therefore, though Raila looks like the main beneficiary, Uhuru actually is.
