President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a delegation led by  Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr Monica Juma, and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to return the Tanzanian gold estimated to cost about Sh100 million.

The gold consignment was received in Tanzania by President John Pombe Magufuli. They then scrutinized its genuity.

After confirming it was genuine Magufuli made a phone call to President Uhuru Kenyatta on live camera.

However, Uhuru did not pick the call.

Moments later, he returned the call where they praised the good working relationship between the two countries.

"Our countries should be owned by citizens...I believe my brother we will continue working together just like we agreed there is no boundary between Kenya and Tanzania, let us help each other and eradicate poverty (Nchi yetu lazima irudi kwa wananchi wetu........na mimi ndugu yangu naamini tuendelee kushirikia namna hiyo, Kenya na Tanzania vile tulisema hakuna mpaka, na lazima tuendelee kuwa kitu kimoja tusaidiene mpaka tufukuze umasikini katika nchi yetu)," said Uhuru.

Uhuru's sentiments were echoed by Magufuli who said that were it not for their good partnership, Kenya would not have returned the gold to Tanzania.

"Thank you Mr. President for such wise words, the relationship between Kenya and Tanzania is intact, no one can separate us. I told my citizens, were it not for our good partnership, we would have not received this gold back. (Mweshimiwa Rais mimi nakushukuru kwa maneno mazuri, undugu wa Kenya na Tanzania uko pale pale, kamwe hapatatokea mtu wa kututenganisha. Naambia Watanzania, tungekua sisi watu wabaya, hii dhahabau wewe ungeikata huko moja kwa moja)," Magufuli conversed with Uhuru.
