President Uhuru Kenyatta has been invited to be the chief guest during the country’s New Year Celebrations in Addis Ababa.
The message of the invitation from the government was delivered former Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome.
The retired head of state praised President Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in power, for ensuring there are both national and regional peace initiatives.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta today received a special message from Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde inviting him to be the chief guest during celebrations to mark the Ethiopian New Year in September,” State House tweeted.
The retired leaders also praised Uhuru following the handshake between him and ODM leader Raila Odinga. He said that many things have changed since the leaders agreed to work together.
He further alluded that the Ethiopian government has pledged to embrace the leadership of President Uhuru to ensure that they realise development.
“The former President singled out the ‘handshake’ between the Kenyan leader and former PM Raila Odinga as an initiative that has put Kenya on the world map as an icon of peace and stability saying, “as Ethiopians, we would like to emulate what Kenya has done," added State House.
