The police issued a statement in which they cancelled the meeting on the grounds of insecurity.

The Mumias rally was to take place on the same day as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally that was being hosted at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega.

Echesa however believes the reason that was provided by the police was not valid.

He alleged that there were enough police officers in the region to provide security for the two meetings.

"The question that we want to ask the Inspector General is that today as we speak we have over 600 police officers who have been deployed at Mumias to prevent our meeting. Why did they not use those over 600 police officers to offer security in the meeting that we had organised?

(Ile swali sisi tunauliza Inspector General, leo vile tunazungumza hapa tuko na over 600 police officers Mumias pale kuzuia mukutano usiikue. Mbona hawakutumia hao over 600 police officers kutu offer security kwa mkutano wetu ambao tulikuwa tumetengeneza)," Echesa said.

He went ahead to allege that there are people with hidden agenda in the BBI report.

"Therefore it appears that there are people hiding behind the BBI with a different objective. And We would like to say that all this is because of Raila Amolo Odinga.

(Kwa hivyo inaonekana hii mambo ya BBI watu wamejificha ndani lakini wako na nia tofauti. Na sisi tunataka tuseme ya kwamba hii mambo yote ni ya Raila Amolo Odinga)," Echesa added.
