Police in Nyando, Kisumu County on Tuesday arrested an elderly man accused of defiling a class six pupil in Kodeyo village.
Johannes Omollo Abuogi reportedly saw his opportunity and did the heinous act on the 11-year-old when his wife left to work in the rice fields.
The incident was confirmed by Kochieng West Location Chief Mark Nyandianga who said that the 63-year-old was nabbed by villagers who were responding to the victim's screams.
Nyandianga told Citizen Digital that the man crept to where the girl, an orphan, was sleeping before defiling her, despite having a wife, whom he reportedly inherited.
The victim was rushed to the Rabuor Health Center for treatment after the ordeal, with the suspect set to be arraigned in court to face defilement charges.
The incident comes only a month after a deputy headteacher was accused of doing the same to three minors in the same constituency, which landed him in court.
Arombo Primary School Deputy Head Teacher was arraigned before Nyando Senior Principal Magistrate Patrick Olengo for allegedly defiling the girls on different dates, in October 2018.
He was released on an Sh200,000 bond for each of the charges, with the case hearing set for October 16.
