“Receiving the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai at my office earlier this morning. The IG is currently in Kisumu for a one day official tour to familiarise himself with the region's security issues as he meets the region's police bosses,” Anyang’ Nyong’o said after the meeting.

Nyanza region comprises of six counties, namely; Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.

It is Mutyambai’s first official visit to Kisumu, since he came into office in April this year.

Mutyambai was sworn in as the IG on April 7 2019, taking over from Joseph Boinett who left office after the expiry of his four-year term.

His visit to Kisumu comes in the wake of a calm and peaceful environment resulting from the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in March last year.

The IG is expected to tour the Kisumu Port which is under rehabilitation. The port has been a centre of attraction after visits by various leaders in the past one week.

Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiang’i, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta have visited the port in the past one week.
