The lady whose name has been withheld for fear of victimisation was forced to cut short her time at the beach after the teens started preying on her.

She said one of the teens tried to drag her into the deep seas and when she tried to raise alarm, his colleagues became aggressive.

The 20-year-old student had to swim back to the shore as the only measure of escaping the teens' plans, as her attempts to tell them off bore no fruits.

“I was swimming with two of my friends when some boys came where we were and kept pestering us. Initially, we thought they were part of the crowd enjoying themselves around us and we didn’t make much of it," she said, as quoted by the Nation.

“However, we noticed they were now getting really close, with one of them swimming towards my floater and trying to drag me into the deep waters. It kept happening and every time I told him off, his friends got aggressive. I had to swim out,” she added.

This is not the first case of the teen gangs preying on women at the beach. Similar cases have been reported to the police.

However, Mombasa Police Commander Johnston Ipara said such cases haven’t been reported recently following the launched of 24-hour surveillance at the beach.

“We decided to establish the police post to curb these cases. So far, we have been successful,” said Mr Ipara.
