A Nakuru court has sentenced a 65-year-old man 20 years in prison for defiling his daughter and infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
Nakuru Chief Magistrate, David Kemei who sentenced Arnold Karanja on Monday said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the offense.
“The court sentences the accused 20 years in jail to serve as an example to would be offenders,” said the magistrate.
Karanja was charged with defiling his daughter aged 12 years on March 17, at their home in Njoro using force and intimidation.
The culprit is said to have turned on the teenager after he had domestic differences with his wife who denied him conjugal rights and proceeded to defile her.
The mother, Susan Wangui, reported the matter to Njoro police station and the accused was later arrested and charged in court.
According to a medical examination report that was presented in court as an exhibit, a doctor recommended that the complainant is put on medical treatment for syphilis after she tested positive to the ailment.
The accused asked the court to be lenient on him saying he is the bread winner of his family, but the court said the sentence was commensurate to the offence committed.
