A 65-year-old man was stabbed after an altercation at a polling station in Garissa during Masalani Ward by-election. 

According to a local daily, the man, Mzee Muse Abdile Abdi, was rushed for treatment at Masalani hospital after he engaged in an argument with another person over the voting process. Abdi said that the attacker, whose identity has not been disclosed, drew a dagger before injuring him following a disagreement over the exercise."After (the) confrontation the man drew a dagger which he used to stab me in the stomach," he narrated, as quoted by Nation.The man, who sustained serious injuries below his stomach, has since been recommended to undergo surgery at Garissa Hospital for surgery following the tragic occurrence. Confirming the incident Returning Officer Farah Abdi Ibrahim, said that this is a criminal offence, adding that police are probing the matter."We have heard the unfortunate incident that one person was injured but we have talked to the police who are handling it because it is a criminal matter," said Mr Ibrahim. Sources also indicate the suspect is undergoing treatment in an adjacent room. The by-election comes after the demise of Ibrahim Abdullahi.
