Looking back with nostalgia, there was a time Q FM commanded a lot of influence in the radio scene. There simply wasn’t a radio station that would match it.
It started in the year 2008 promising to quench the thirsts of its listeners under its tagline, ‘Kata Kiu’ and it surely lived up to its expectations.
There were presenters with voices that seemed to have been sent from heaven. It didn’t help that some of them were being heard for the first time, but all made life worth it. There was Kajairo with his sports crew that served sports as well as the latest reggae songs on afternoons, then paved way for Massawe Japanni and Awinja where the two served a continuous dose of laughter.
The idea of serving all genres of music, from Rhumba to RnBs, from bongo to soul music, was a cool one, considering that it served all ages at a go. It had everything under one roof.
Q FM built the careers, and if not significantly boosted, of many presenters. Many of them were poached by upcoming radio stations who used Q FM’s blueprint.
Their departure meant the death of Q FM, which never seemed to recover from the loss of its beloved presenters. Or it could have a financial decision on the part of the management.
For its fans, there’s nothing but fond memories of the radio station that came with a different and captivating sound. It was simply the best while it lasted.
