The cancellation of Kimwarer dam in Elgeyo-Marakwet County shows rifts between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, Timothy Bosire has said.
On Wednesday, Uhuru ordered cancellation of the project, even with the fact that over Sh21 billion had been paid by the treasury to the contractor.
A technical committee report handed to Uhuru showed massive anomalies, with inflation of the neighbouring Arror's also factored in.
"The committee established that no current reliable feasibility study had been conducted on the project," stated a statement from State House.
The team also noted that only study on a similar project was conducted 28 years ago and that it revealed a geological fault across the 800-acre project area.
"This would have negative structural effects on the dam," it said, adding residents would be displaced, resulting in the need for compensation.
But according to the former Kitutu Masaba MP, the cancellation, reduction of Arror's cost and sacking of Henry Rotich badly exposes Dr Ruto's 'lies'.
The ODM treasurer notes that it will now be difficult for Ruto to blackmail a vigilant Uhuru after years of massive embezzlement of government resources.
"Uhuru has simply exposed him. At first, he disputed issues of thuggery. He went on to say that it's politics. But now, Uhuru has sacked Rotich and even cancelled Kimwarer project. This implies that Ruto had been lying to the nation," he said in an interview, Friday.
Early this year, Ruto denied claims that money had been lost in the projects. He accused opposition leaders of allegedly plotting to scuttle the projects.
“You've heard that government has lost about Sh21 billion in Kimwarer and Arror dam, which is a flat lie!” he said at the Supreme Court.
“The money in question is about Sh7 billion and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee. No money will be lost because we are a responsible government.”
