The Abagusii council of elders chairman James Araka Matundura raised concern that a section of leaders from the community do not respect Uhuru and Raila in their capacity as national leaders.

"Leaders from Nyamira and Kisii counties need to respect Uhuru and Raila because the two leaders dropped their political differences for the sake of unity, peace and harmony in this country after the divisive 2017 polls," said Matundura in Kisii town on Friday.

According to Matundura, the historic handshake between Uhuru and Raila should not be politicized adding that a section of politicians from the community politicizing the handshake are enemies.

The chairman re-assured that the council of elders fully supports the historic handshake between Uhuru and Raila terming it fruitful.

"Every politician from Gusii community must be part of the handshake for development to be realised in the region," he stated.

Matundura further said the Gusii community has become famous due to Interior CS Fred Matiang'i's big roles in government.

He reiterated that the elders are behind Matiang'i and challenged him (Matiang'i) to continue serving Kenyans irrespective of the tribe or religious affiliation.
