President Uhuru Kenyatta has picked Margaret Nyakango as the new Controller of Budget after the position fell vacant.

Nyakango is set to succeed Agnes Odhiambo. 

According to The Star, Nyakango will assume office if her nomination is approved after Odhiambo exited office in August. 

She will defend herself when she appears before Committee on Finance and National Planning following the nomination. 

She emerged as the best candidate after 15 applicants showed interest in the position. 

Nyakango worked at the Africa International University where she was the finance director before she departed. She is currently employed by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. 

The other candidates who had applied for the positions were Stephen Masha (Acting Controller of Budget), Leonard Rangala, James Aloyo,  Abukar Abdirahman, Abiniza Macklin Ogolla, Elizabeth Mwathi, Justus Nyamunga, Karen Kandie, Muinde Patrick, William Kipkemboi,  and Celestine Munda.

Nyakango is a graduate of the University of Liverpool, UK. She is also a Certified Public Accountant. She has also been mentoring youths in different areas of life. She has earned recognition over the role she has played in transforming the lives of women.

The nominee is expected to fill in the shoes of her predecessor if she sails through. She is also expected to bring her vast knowledge and experience into the office if she assumes the same.
