Grief engulfed Riondong'a village, Keumbu Location in Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County after a 9-year-old boy was dead inside a well on Saturday evening.
While confirming the incident, area chief Ben Oguka said the deceased Braven Maraga, went missing on Thursday evening only for his body to be recovered from a well which was 30ft deep.
"The deceased had a mental problem. He went missing from home on Thursday after which his parents and neighbors launched a search. It is sad that he was found dead inside the water-well at his parents' compound," said the chief.
He said investigations have commenced to establish if the deceased was murdered or it was a normal accident.
The chief said parents who reported the boy's predicaments have already recorded a statement with police.
"Maraga's body was retrieved from the water-well and moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue as probe continues. I urge members of the public to remain calm and stand with the bereaved family during this cold times," said Oguka.
The administrator regretted that the rate at which people are dying in the area under unclear circumstances is at the peak and urged parents to take care of their children during this time the region is experiencing heavy rains.
