A priest who was found dead in his car last week has been laid to rest.
Reverent Earnest Mutua was found lifeless in a car in Likoni, Mombasa County on October 16, with the police believing he might have died from a heart attack.
Police reports indicate the priest, who was serving as the immediate parish priest of Infant Jesus, was driving along Lunga Lunga Road, and parked at Kona Mbaya after feeling unwell.
“The priest was a patient of high blood pressure and diabetes. We are informed that he parked by the side of the road after his sickness struck. We have, however, launched further investigations into the death,” Likoni Sub-County Police Commander Benjamin Rotich said when the priest's body was found.
He was buried at the Mbaraki Cemetery on Tuesday, in a function that was presided over by Holy Ghost Cathedral Mombasa Diocese Archbishop Martin Kivuva.
Kivuva lauded the deceased as a man who had a great sense of humour, adding that the church has acquired a piece of land in Bububu where it seeks to establish a hospital.
He said the facility will be located at South Coast, and will be fully equipped with the intention of offering locals health services without having to cross the ferry.
This comes amid an ongoing probe into the murder of Machakos Catholic priest Michael Kyengo, who was brutally killed and his body buried in a shallow grave in Embu county.
