Uasin Gishu woman rep Gladys Boss Shollei has weighed in on the order issued by veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga for the dredging work at the Likoni Channel so as to make the work of divers easier.
Unlike other governing Jubilee legislators who savaged Mr Odinga, saying that he does not have the powers to issue an order, Shollei took a soft stance on the order, saying that it should have been phrased in a different was so that it sounded as a request and not as an order.
She, however, agreed with the critics of the ODM supremo that he does not have the power to issue orders.
"Legally and in terms of government operations, he cannot make the directive but he can give the suggestion as a political leader.
"So the suggestion he gave was a sound suggestion. I thinks its just the wording where he said I am giving an order, " the Uasin Gishu woman rep said. (16:46:17:05)
Raila's order appeared to distract attention from the ongoing recovery effort to whether he has the constitutional mandate to issue the order.
There had been concerns that the dredging was complicating recovery efforts hence Mr Odinga's call for it to be suspended for the duration of the recovery operation.
