Already, Thirdway Alliance party has been given an okay to push for constitutional amendments through a referendum after collecting over 1 million signatures.

But major parties among them ODM and Jubilee have rejected the referendum under Punguza Mizigo initiative, arguing that no public participation was done.

Speaking at Mombasa in the ongoing  Law Society of Kenya conference, Prof Muigai, famously known as mortician, said Kenya is operating a constitution it cannot manage.

"We are running a government that we cannot manage, it is too large..thinking in size and numbers. We need to revisit Chapter 6 of the Constitution," Githu Muigai said

The University of Nairobi law professor said the country should abolish all constitutional commissions and restore the mandate to ministers.

"We must go back to logic. The government must be lean, small and functional. Abolish the Commissions and return their mandates to the Ministries," Muigai said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are mulling over changing the constitution through Building Bridges Initiative, which has already completed public participation.

However, Deputy President William Ruto has come out as one of reluctant senior leaders to have the law changed before 2022 polls where he's seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
