A chief and 25 other people in Shinyalu area, Kakamega county were arrested on Monday in connection to an incident where a suspected chicken thief was brutally hacked to death.
According to a report by Citizen Digital, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i ordered the arrest of the individuals.
The CS directed that the person who possessed the murder weapon (Machete) as well as the spectators who stood by and watched without helping the victim should be arrested.
“The area chief was in very close proximity of the scene of crime and failed to take any administrative action. Seven suspects have already appeared before Kakamega High Court,” a statement from CS Matiang'i read as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The CS also raised concern over the increased cases of violence and supported ongoing operation to flush out individuals who are involved in criminal activities in Kakamega.
“As such, I am informed and in occurrence with the IG’s directive, to have the operation to flush out criminals continue, until all those responsible for conducting, aiding or abetting these reprehensible acts face the full force of the law," he noted.
The order to arrest the 26 suspects comes shortly after four other suspects connected to the incident were presented in a Kakamega court.
