Nanok’s replacement comes after he disowned the party

The second term county boss has since announced that he will back Deputy President William Ruto in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Loima MP Jeremiah Lomorukai is now expected to take the position of the governor in the party.

The decision to replace the county boss came after the party held a National Executive Council meeting in Nakuru.

The members unanimously agreed to oust the governor after he opted to shift his allegiance. The Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga-led party declared that Nanok no longer deserved to hold a senior position in the political outfit following his change of tune.

“Following numerous public pronouncements that he has quit the ODM Party, the NEC has unanimously resolved to replace H.E. Gov. Josphat Nanok as the party Vice Chairman with Loima MP Hon. Jeremiah Lomorukai. He was welcomed to the NEC by the party leader Raila Odinga,” reads the tweet by the ODM Party.

The decision of the party comes at a time when the opposition is seeking to strengthen itself ahead of 2022 after the weakening of the National Super Alliance (NASA).

It, however, remains unclear whether Raila will contest for the nation’s top seat once Uhuru completes his second and final term in office.
