The supremacy battle pitting senators and MPs over the Division of Revenue Bill seems not to be ending anytime soon.
On Thursday, MPs defied senators by approving Sh316 billion for county governments, disregarding an earlier approval of Sh335 Billion made by the Senate.
On Wednesday, senators unanimously agreed and approved Sh335 Billion to go to the devolved governments.
The Council of Governors (COG) had rejected the Sh316 billion proposed by the National Assembly insisting on more allocation amounting to Sh335 billion.
However, MPs approved Sh316 billion for counties in what is now expected to escalate the tug of war between them and the Senate.
Governors are lamenting over what they term as little allocation to them by the national government in the 2019/2020 Financial Year (FY).
The county bosses are accusing the Commission of Revenue Allocation of allegedly ignoring recommendations on sharing of revenue between the national government and devolved governments.
Last week, the governors moved to court and filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking an advisory order on the revenue allocation.
On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta told governors that the government does not have more money to give them.
The President who was speaking in Gatanga during the burial of former area MP Peter Kenneth’s mother, Rahab Wambui asked the county bosses to utilize what they have and stop asking for more because it is not there.
