Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen now wants the roles of the Deputy President to be defined well in the impending changes.

Other than being the principal assistant of the president, the DP's roles are not defined in the Constitution, a move that has led to confusions.

Since 2013, Murkomen said, Dr William Ruto has not been able to chair even cabinet sub Committees, adding that the post should be relooked at.

In a post shared by Moses Kuria under the tag of NoReferendumBeforeElections, Murkomen is heard lamenting that the country cannot afford to create more posts without reevaluating the position of DP.

"The DP does not chair even a cabinet subcommittee. Before you talk of any changes, tell us the defined responsibility of the Deputy President, under this constitution and under this regime so that it defines the future of the government that you're going to create," he said.

The Elgeyo-Marakwet senator said that Dr Ruto has been subjected to humiliation because the Constitution is silent about the roles of DP.

In future, he added, the roles should be clearly defined to avoid a scenario like the current one from recurring.

"I am saying this because William Ruto cannot be Deputy President forever. From 2022 he cannot be DP to anybody according to the Constitution. We don't want to see the future DP being subjected to humiliation like they are doing to Ruto."
