Kenya's bid for one of the non-permanent seats at the United Nations Security Council has received a major boost following Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli' endorsement.

On Wednesday, President Kenyatta hosted Tanzania's Foreign Affairs Minister Palamagamba Kabudi who assured him that Magufuli is solidly behind the government's bid for the seat. 

"Tanzania's Foreign Affairs Minister Palamagamba Kabudi paid a courtesy visit to the President as a special envoy of President John Magufuli, and assured that Tanzania has full confidence in the ability of Kenya to represent the African continent in the security council," State House said.

The Head of State also held a meeting with South Sudan envoy Awut Deng Acuil, where he said Kenya is ready to support the South Sudan government, in the quest to ensure there is better leadership. 

He said the Kenyan government is ready to stand with South Sudan President Salva Kiir in the implementation of the peace agreement that was reached in 2018.

"The President also hosted Hon Awut Deng Acuil, a special envoy of the President of South Sudan Salva Kiir. The President reassured the South Sudanese of Kenya's commitment to continue supporting efforts towards the full implementation of the 2018 peace agreement," State House added.
