The two leaders have been having it hard agreeing on a number of political matters, the highest one being Raila's push for constitutional reforms.

However, speaking during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa on Sunday, both leaders agreed on the need for Kenyans to remain united.

It began with Raila, who is drumming support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) stressed on the need for Kenyans to remain united.

He termed this one of the goals of the BBI founded by him and President Uhuru Kenyatta after their 2018 truce, adding that it also seeks to end the runaway graft in Kenya.

“The handshake came in handy to unite Kenyans and we should all support the BBI because it will end corruption and division so that Kenyans can live as brothers and sisters," said the former Prime Minister.

Speaking moments later, the DP who, however, avoided the BBI debate, said that nobody is in Kenya by mistake, and all Kenyans should, therefore, embrace each other.

He urged all Kenyans to join hands for the sake of the republic, terming togetherness one of the only avenues to success as a country.

“I urge you to work together and take this county forward. We are all brothers. Nobody is in Kenya by mistake. We are all in Kenya for the love of God so that we work together for the sake of this country,” he said.

Ruto and Raila, despite being allies during the Grand Coalition Government, have grown wide apart over the past years.

The same has been worsened by their anticipated faceoff in the 2022 presidential ballot, though Raila remains silent on his plans.

While Raila has taken issue with Ruto's deep pockets and appetite for fundraisers, questioning the source of his finances, the DP had been accusing him of trying to wreck the Jubilee Party.

Ruto had accused Raila of using his truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta to frustrate the party and using the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to house himself in government.
