Currently, the president cannot sack his deputy, with the law dictating that both are elected jointly in an election.

However, Momanyi who is serving his second term believes that President Uhuru Kenyatta is a victim of the clause which informs the need to change it.

While addressing a group of bodaboda riders at Mwongori on Thursday morning, Momanyi said there is a need to change the law for the sake of saving the president.

“Uhuru should have powers to sack the Deputy President because, at times, the DP can be a crook. We can’t have a deputy who is sabotaging the President all the time," said Momanyi.

"If this is not captured in the BBI report, we shall make such a recommendation. We can't watch the president suffering in silence," he added.

Momanyi also came to the defence of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, asking Borabu residents to stand with him amid an onslaught from a section of MPs.

"We should stand firm and condemn those attacking the minister. They are cartels who want to taint his name. This habit must stop," he said.

Dr Matiang'i is increasingly under siege from a section of Jubilee leaders who have accused him of discharging his duties with discrimination.

The CS is reportedly said to be at loggerheads with the DP.
