President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday reached out to United Nations member States to support Kenya's bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
Speaking at General Debate of the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York , Uhuru extended his gratitude to the African Union for backing Kenya for the seat during elections scheduled for next year.
The head of state said that the country deserves the seat because Kenya plays a pivotal role in maintaining peace in the entire East African Region.
Uhuru also said the nation has been involved in a series of peace keeping operations in the past. The president said that Kenya has ensure there is peace in Sudan and other neighboring nations.
"When the world had given up on our region, we opened our doors to millions of people fleeing insecurity. To this day, we host hundreds of thousands of refugees.
"Our investment in the Sudan negotiations led to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005. We continue to support stabilization efforts in both Sudan and South Sudan," he said in part.
Uhuru has been meeting leaders from different to root for the seat at the UN.
The commander in chief of the armed has also been wooing investors from America and other parts of the world to invest in Kenya.
