Embattled Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has come out to reveal why he was jailed at Shimo La Tewa prison.
Speaking during a morning show at Radio Maisha, Sonko admitted to having been at Shimo La Tewa and Kamiti and noted that he is not ashamed of it.
‘’I have seen my name was tainted the whole weekend. I haven’t denied being at Shimo La Tewa, I haven’t denied being at Kamiti. (Naona nimechafuliwa jina ii wikendi yote. Mimi sijakataa kuwa nlikua Shimo La Tewa, sijakataa kuwa nlikua Kamiti. ),’’ said Sonko in a YouTube video posted by Radio Maisha.
The city boss came out to put the record straight as to why he was arrested and jailed for six months at Shimo La Tewa prison.
‘’Sonko was late to go to court. (Sonko alichelewa kwenda kortini.),’’ noted Sonko.
He had a case against him but didn't attend court sessions prompting the court to sentence him. However, he noted that he was released after one month in prison.
"I was in jail for one month before being released. I had a lot of things, I had lost my mother," he said in part
He was re-arrested in 2000 with another case and jailed at Kamiti.
A local daily has termed Sonko as the most dangerous man, while the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) has labeled him as a corrupt individual.
