Police in Matungulu sub-county of are hunting for a gang of three robbers that raided an M-Pesa shop in Tala market on Sunday night and stole Sh144,000.

Matungulu Assistant County Commissioner James Nyegenye confirmed that the 7 pm incident robbed the shopped armed with pistols. 

He said that they carried Sh74, 000 in cash and took away the shop's attendant's phone which had Sh70,000.

"I received a report that there was an M-Pesa shop in Tala that was robbed, the thieves made away with Sh144,000 and a phone," said Nyegenye.

He said the incident was reported to Tala Police Station under OB Number 35/7/7/2019.

Nyegenye added that police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who are still at large.

The proprietor of the M-Pesa only identified as Daniel decried that his shop was raided once again raided last year and they robbers made away with Sh450,000.

He said that it's possible the thieves are from the area because they had covered themselves up in fear of being recognised.

"They were three, two had covered themselves up in a way I couldn't recognise them while the other one had not covered himself," he said.
