In a letter, Abala said that he will now concentrate in his former duties as economic advisor of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o, who proposed him to the position.

“After extensive consultation with Governor Nyong'o and the LREB CEO Wycliffe Oparanya, I decide to resign and go back to my initial position within the county after putting up structures in place for the bloc,” Abala noted.

Abala's resignation comes few days after a Kiambu court convicted him of fraud and he's facing a similar case at Kibra court.

LREC comprises of 14 counties among them Kisii, Migori, Nyamira, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Vihiga, Bomet, Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia.

Earlier this month, Governor Wycliffe Oparanya of Kakamega denied claims that he was contemplating resignation. He's the chairman of the Bloc and doubles as CoG boss.

"I have noted widespread distortions in a section of the press on the statement I made last week on my leadership at the Lake Region Economic Bloc. Some have said I have quit as chairman. My response is: I'm going nowhere," he wrote.
