Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has decried the deplorable state of Narok Prison.
Speaking moments after he spent some time with the inmates at the facility, Ledama said life is hell for prisoners serving time at the state penitentiary.
He noted that the facility has a shortage of beds and toilets lamenting that prisoners go through tough times at the place yet they are also Kenyans just like those who have not been convicted of any crime before.
He said that most of them landed at the facility because of petty mistakes like attempted defilement but they can never smile again in life.
"Narok Prisons was originally set up as a remand center during the colonial period to accommodate 100 prisoners, today the prison is detaining 500 prisoners with no beds nor enough toilets @prisons please do something about this! Most of those detained are underage for defilement," he tweeted.
He highlighted the case of an 80-year-old man who had been detained with his 78-year-old wife after they attempted to force their underage girl to get married. The wife has since gone blind but the prison has kept then in unfavourable conditions.
"The man in the middle in a yellow Shuka is roughly 80year old (sic), blind man, he is being detained with his 78 year old (sic) blind wife with allegation of forced marriage of an underage girl The man in red (70) is suspected of giving out his girl (15) to the blind couple. All have denied," he said in another tweet.
