A woman in Kisumu is demanding for action after the erection of a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) electric transformer in her compound, which she says poses a great danger to her and her neighbours.

Milka Ogega, a resident of Kasule in Kisumu East, said since the erection of the transformer in April 2013, the machine has been bursting into flames, with her attempts to have it removed falling on deaf ears.

She now blames the faulty machine for the electrocution of two bulls belonging to a neighbour, Jekonia Were, an incident that has been reported at the Kondele Police Station.

“The death of the bulls belonging to my neighbour is not the first incident. This transformer poses a serious danger to my family,” she said as  quoted by Standard.

Milka said plans to erect the transformer began in her absence, with her attempts to have it removed failing, as KPLC proceeded to erect it despite her objections.

"I was away for about one week. When I returned, I found the Kenya Power had dug two huge holes in my compound where they were to install the transformer. I opposed their plans but they went a head to install it,” she added.

Kenya Power Kisumu operations and maintenance boss Daniel Okumu said his office has received the complaints and is investigating why the transformer was erected without the home owner's consent.

Meanwhile, power to the transformer has been disconnected.
