Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru has told off Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru over her remarks concerning the 2022 presidential election.
Waiguru on Wednesday on live TV said Mt Kenya residents were ready to support Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga to take over power from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking during a function in Waiguru's Kirinyaga backyard on Friday, Waruguru said the county boss cannot purport to be speaking on behalf of Mt Kenya since she was not the region's spokesperson.
The MP said Uhuru is the area political kingpin, therefore, he is the only one who can give direction on how the populous region will vote in the next election.
“Only President Kenyatta can tell us where Mt. Kenya support will be directed in 2022,” she said.
Waruguru made the remarks when a group of women leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto dubbed 'Inua Mama Jenga Taifa' were hosted by area Women Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici for a charity event.
The legislator claimed Waiguru was rooting for Raila's presidency after she was promised to be nominated as running mate.
“Those who got married recently after being promised the deputy president seat, should take a back seat and learn from history,” said Waruguru.
However, speaking elsewhere on Friday, Waiguru reiterated that Mt Kenya residents should rally behind the former Prime Minister since Kenyans were not ready for another Head of State from the Kikuyu or Kalenjin communities.
“We are urging Mt. Kenya leaders to start thinking about it because we have woken up in 2019. I do not see this country accepting another rule of only a Kalenjin and a Kikuyu. We, therefore, must start thinking about how we accommodate our other brothers and sisters in Kenya. That is why I have said I welcome Raila Odinga to Mt. Kenya region,” the Governor said during a burial ceremony in Nyeri County.
